Doris Small Helfer is currently serving as the Engineering, Computer Science, FCS and Social Sciences Librarian at California State University Northridge.  She had a column in "Searcher Magazine: the Magazine of the Database Professional" for many years.  Her most recent publication was as co-author of the article on "Technical Services" in the "Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science" 4th edition currently published in 2017.   Her B.A. is from CSU Northridge and her M.S.L. is from Western Michigan University. 

She served as President of the  SLA Southern Calif. Chapter, SLA Chair of the IT Division, Communications Division, and Knowledge Management Divisions, and on the SLA Board of Directors as Division Cabinet Chair.  In addition she has served as Chair of the SLA Networking, Public Relations, Scholarship, and Information Outlook Advisory Council and numerous other volunteer positions.  She was the recipent of the Distinguished Teacher/Librarian of the Year award atCalifornia State University, the SLA Rose Vermelker Award for mentoring and has been honored by being named to the SLA Hall of Fame.  She received the SLA John Cotton Dana Award in 2017, the Association's highest honor.
