Jenny Wong-Welch

STEM Librarian
San Diego State University

Jenny Wong-Welch is the STEM Librarian at San Diego State University. In addition to her responsibilities of providing research assistance and library instruction for the College of Engineering and the departments of Astronomy, Physics, and Mathematics/Statistics, she is the Director of build IT @ SDSU Library. To help integrate information literacy into the SDSU curriculum, she developed build IT @SDSU Library, which is a student-run makerspace designed to foster creativity and innovation by providing an infrastructure for DIY learning of technology to transform ideas into products. Her research focuses on the role of libraries as makerspaces on the academic campus. Her work centers on providing all students the opportunity to actively engage with new technology and its applications. She mentors students of various skill levels and backgrounds to help promote the maker culture on-campus. Through her mentorship, student mentees gain applicable skills and develop the ability informatively educate their peers on new technology. Lastly, she focuses on using the process of making and design thinking to make information literacy more tangible.
