Dr. Anthony S. Chow is the Director and a Professor at the San José State University School of Information, where he brings over 25 years of experience in instructional design, online learning, and library and information science. He holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Design and an M.S. in Educational Psychology from Florida State University. A prolific scholar and practitioner, Dr. Chow has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, delivered more than 100 national and international presentations, and served as principal investigator or co-investigator on over $3 million in grant-funded projects. His work focuses on digital equity, emerging technologies, usability, and community-centered librarianship, including leading projects like Reading Nation Waterfall and Seeking Immortality, which support Indigenous literacy and cultural preservation using virtual reality. His innovative XR work earned the Anthem Award for the XR VOICES Initiative, which showcases immersive storytelling in support of marginalized communities. In recognition of his impactful leadership, Dr. Chow has been named the 2025–2026 President of both the California Library Association (CLA) and the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA)—a historic dual appointment that reflects his national influence and commitment to advocacy, diversity, and the future of libraries.
