Picture of Christina de CastellChristina has been Chief Librarian at Vancouver Public Library since 2018, with former roles including director of collections & technology and manager of online information & news. She is fascinated by the way that technology is changing reading, learning and libraries, and believes that each of us can advocate for library patrons and our values through our conversations and our roles.

Christina has been part of library ebook advocacy since 2010, and is a member of the IFLA eLending Working Group and IFLA Copyright and Other Legal Matters Committee, with former roles on the Canadian Urban Libraries Council eContent task force and the leadership of ReadersFirst, each from their beginnings in 2010-2012. She is the co-author, with Paul Whitney, of eBooks in Public Libraries: An Evolving Landscape, and is a frequent speaker on ebooks, reading and libraries. In 2015, Christina represented libraries at UN forums as manager, policy and advocacy for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Prior to joining VPL, Christina worked at the BC Securities Commission as a website manager, usability specialist and research librarian.
